Flights & Airports
For our family and friends flying to the wedding, here are some helpful travel tips.
New York’s three main airports are JFK, LaGuardia, and Newark, and all will work great for getting to the wedding. JFK has better public transportation options, but LaGuardia is a less expensive cab ride. Newark is the furthest airport from the city, but many airlines fly in and out from many cities so it could be a great option depending on your schedule and where you are coming from.
For the best airfares, we suggest using Expedia or Kayak.
Train
The subway runs 24-hours and will take you pretty much anywhere you want to go for $2.50.
- JFK: take the Air Tran (which is a small commuter train from the airport to the JFK Airport / Howard Beach station --- this should take 5-10 minutes). Then take the A train from JFK Airport / Howard Beach, which goes into Manhattan and change trains in Manhattan accordingly depending on your final destination
- LGA: Since this is the closes airport to Manhattan and no subway services it directly, we suggest taking a taxi to your destination
- Newark: take the Air Tran (which is a small commuter train from the airport to the Newark Airport station --- this should take 5-10 minutes). Then take the New Jersey Transit from Newark Airport into New York Penn Station. Here you can transfer to the NYC subway or get out and find a taxi, which will be plentiful around this area of the city.
Cabs
While most of you will most likely stay at one of the two hotels in Yonkers, some of you will opt to stay in New York City or at least want to travel there in your down time.
From the airport to your destination, you can take either the subway (albeit a bit more difficult) or a taxi (which is much easier). For a taxi, follow the signs in the airport for "Ground Transportation" and/or "Taxis", and you will see an official taxi kiosk and line.
- JFK: cabs operate on a flat rate of $45 plus tolls, and you should tip the driver $4-5.
- LaGuardia: cabs run on a metered fare, which is generally around $25-30 to most places, plus tip (most people add a couple dollars).
- Newark: cabs are going to be the most expensive given it’s the furthest from NYC.
